2025 - 2026 County of Lake Benefits

  • Health and Insurance Benefits  

    Medical, dental, hospital, and vision coverage is available to employees and their dependents. The County contributes up to $1,500 of the monthly premiums for the insurance plan options for all employees.

     
  • Retirement  

    County employees are members of the State-wide Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) which provides generous retirement benefits.

    County employees also participate in Social Security.

     
  • Holidays  

    Most employees receive sixteen paid 8-hour holidays per year that varies by the unit; pro-rated for part-time employees.

     
  • Vacation  

    Vacation is Accrued 80 hours per year during the first five years of service, 120 hours per year after five years, and additional accruals based on years of service beyond fifteen years. Pro-rated for part-time employees. Management employees accrue vacation at a different rate. New employees who worked for another county or city immediately prior to employment with the County of Lake may be eligible to add those years of service for vacation accrual purposes.

     
  • Sick Leave  

    Accrues at a rate of 96 hours per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.

REACH Membership

We’re happy to share that all permanent employees will continue to receive the REACH Membership (Emergent) at no cost for the 2026 plan year.

Free to all PERMANENT employees

This membership provides access to emergency air transport through REACH, CALSTAR, or any other AMCN provider. It covers both scene transports and hospital-to-hospital transfers. Best of all, there are no out-of-pocket costs, and it includes everyone in your household, ensuring that you're protected in case of unexpected accidents or critical illnesses. 

At a cost you can also enroll into the Fly-U-Home Membership

You also have the option to purchase the Fly-U-Home Membership for $140.00. The Fly-U-Home Membership is a one-time deduction. 

This optional coverage includes:

  • Medically equipped flights to bring you back to your home hospital if you're hospitalized more than 150 nautical miles from home.
  • Transportation of mortal remains
  • No out-of-pocket costs for covered services

Retirement

  • CalPERS Retirement 

    The County of Lake participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). All full-time benefited employees are automatically enrolled in the CalPERS system. If you are an extra help employee your eligibility is based on part-time or intermittent employment of 1,000 hours of service within a fiscal year. Membership is mandatory for all eligible employees.

     
  • CalPERS retirement benefits are funded from three different sources: 

    1. Employer contributions
    2. Employee contributions
    3. Earnings from investments of these funds
     
  • Retirement Eligibility 

    To be eligible for service retirement, you must have at least five years of CalPERS-credited service and be at least age 50, 55, 57 or 62 depending on your retirement formula.

     
  • Retirement Benefit Classifications and Formulas 

    CalPERS uses three factors to calculate your service retirement pension:


     
  • Classifications "Classic" 

    • Classic Miscellaneous Member:  2% @ 55; which means you can retire at 55 and receive 2% x (years of service) x (highest 1-year salary).
    • Safety Classic Member: 2% @ 50; which means you can retire at 50 and receive 2% x (years of service) x (avg of highest 3 year salary).
     
  • Classifications "PEPRA" 

    • PEPRA Miscellaneous Member: 2% at 62; which means you can retire at 62 and receive 2% x (years of service) x (avg of highest 3 years' salary).
    • Safety PEPRA Member: 2.7% @ 57; which means you can retire at 57 and receive 2.7% x  (years of service) x (avg of highest 3 years' salary).
